Whilst I regularly donate to a number of charities, such as my local food bank, World Wildlife Fund, Mind and a collection of horse rescue charities in the UK, I wanted to find a charity to support on a regular basis that meant something to me and the situation I found myself in a few years ago.
IDAS is a specialist charity based in York. They support anyone experiencing or affected by domestic abuse or sexual violence, and offer a wide range of services to help those in need.
Domestic abuse can happen to anyone at any time, mentally as well as physically. I wish with all my heart that these charities didn’t have to exist, but sadly having experienced mental abuse first hand, I know what a lifeline they are and I feel honoured to be able to support them.
There are so many ways you can get involved and show your support for this incredible charity. You can organise your own fundraising event to raise money and awareness for the cause, if you’re local, you can volunteer your time, or you can simply donate today. Any amount, big or small, is greatly appreciated.
If you are experiencing or have experienced domestic abuse and need someone to talk to call 03000 110 110 (North Yorkshire and Barnsley), 0808 808 2241 (Sheffield) or 0808 2000 247 (National 24 hours helpline)
