October always feels like the perfect excuse to add a little spookiness into our sketchbooks. And honestly? I couldn’t resist. This month felt like the perfect opportunity to take a look back at a couple of my spooky-inspired Halloween drawings (don’t worry, they’re still more cute than creepy!).

👻 The Ghost Dog – A little pup draped in a sheet, eyes peeking out as if they’re about to say “boo!” It’s playful, a bit silly, but also a brilliant study in shading. Because as we know, white is never just white.
🐾 The Cat in the Cauldron – now this one makes me smile every time. A cheeky cat perched in a bubbling cauldron, broomstick at the ready and a witch’s hat tipped just so. The splash of purple across the hat adds a little pop of colour magic. It’s whimsical, seasonal, and was just plain fun to draw
🕸️ The Halloween Dog –! This one’s such a treat for practising colour contrasts, with those warm oranges set against cooler fur tones.
What I love about revisiting these pieces is that they remind me drawing doesn’t always need to be serious. It can be seasonal, light-hearted, and full of character – the kind of art that makes you smile while you’re learning.
So if you’ve been itching to shake off the cobwebs and pick up your pencils, why not join me in celebrating the season? A brew, a pumpkin on the windowsill, and a page to fill… it’s all you need.
Happy Howl-o-ween,
