What We’ll Be Drawing During Coloured Pencil Week

This year’s subjects are so special and inspired by my upcoming trip to Africa. We’re going on a little safari together…

Lion Cub – Soft Fur & Warm Tones

We’ll focus on those beautiful golden colours and how to layer them so they don’t go flat.

You’ll learn how to:

• Build soft, realistic fur
• Work with warm colour palettes confidently
• Avoid that “muddy” or flat look

These are skills you can carry into any animal with soft fur.

Giraffe – Structure, Shape & Subtle Values

Giraffes are brilliant for learning how to really see.

We’ll explore:

• How to use subtle values to create form
• How to handle similar colours without losing depth
• How to simplify patterns without losing realism

Perfect if your drawings sometimes feel a little flat or unsure.

Elephant – Texture, Depth & Finishing Your Piece

This is where everything comes together.

You’ll work on:

• Creating realistic skin texture and wrinkles
• Using stronger values for depth
• Bringing a full piece together (including a simple background)

And most importantly… finishing your drawing so it feels complete.
